Borgo La Scola
05
The village of La Scola in the municipality of Grizzana Morandi, in the locality of Vimignano, is among the best-preserved medieval villages in the Bolognese Apennines. It appears to have been inhabited as early as the 1200s, although the first written records found date back to the late 1300s. The term "Scola" derives from the Lombard "Sculca," which means guard post or lookout. Built by the Exarchate to fortify its borders and prevent the intrusion of the Lombards, the village, as seen today, was formed between 1300 and 1500 during a period of agricultural economic expansion and development.
